Finn's Tins is built to need as little about you as it can. This page says exactly what it keeps, where, and how to have it deleted.

What the app keeps
There are no Finn's Tins accounts and no sign-ups. For each lid, the app keeps:
- Lid names, such as “Dog food”.
- Opening dates: when each tin was opened (the newest 20 are kept), and the freshness window you chose.
- First names, only if you choose to type one. It's optional, and it is only what you type. It is shown next to the openings it goes with, so everyone who uses the lid can see who opened each tin.
- The lid's code: the long random string at the end of the link on the lid's tag. The app uses it to find the lid.
- Who set it up: Apple's iCloud records when a lid was made and which iCloud account made it, as an anonymous identifier that is not a name or an email address. The app uses it so that only the person who set a lid up can reset it.
The app doesn't ask for your surname, email address, contacts or location.
Where it is kept
Lids are kept in Apple's iCloud, in the app's CloudKit public database. That is a service run by Apple, and Apple's own privacy policy covers how it looks after data on its servers.
“Public” means that anyone who has a lid's code can see what is stored for it, for example anyone who taps its tag. Nobody can list or search lids.
Your phone also keeps a copy of your lids, so it can show them straight away and in widgets. That copy stays on your phone. Reminders are made on your phone too, and don't go through any server of ours.
How long it is kept
A lid's information stays in iCloud until the lid is reset, or until we delete its record because you asked. Each lid keeps only its newest 20 openings; older ones are dropped as new ones are added. The copy on your phone goes when you remove the lid from My lids or delete the app.
What we don't do
No tracking. No ads. We never sell your data. The app has no third-party analytics or tracking tools, and this website sets no cookies and runs no scripts.
We don't share what the app keeps with anyone except Apple, who store it for us in iCloud. Like any website, this one is delivered by a hosting company, which handles the technical details of each request, such as the internet address it came from.
How to delete your information
Open the lid in the app, tap Lid settings, then Reset lid. This clears the lid's name, its tin dates and its history, including any first names, on every phone. Only the person who first set the lid up can do this. The lid's code stays, with the record of who set it up, so that the lid can be set up again.
If you didn't set the lid up, or you would like the whole record deleted, email supper-cookout.4z@icloud.com and tell us which lid it is.
Remove from My lids only takes a lid off your own phone: what is kept in iCloud stays for anyone else who uses it. To stop your first name being added to new openings, clear it in the app's Settings, under Your name.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and object to how we use it. Email supper-cookout.4z@icloud.com and we will help. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office, the UK's data protection regulator.
The app doesn't decide food safety
Finn's Tins records when a tin was opened and reminds you when it's getting old. It doesn't decide whether food is safe to eat. Always check your food's label, and check food before you serve it.
